As reading specialists, we strive to provide excellent reading instruction for all students. To reach that goal, we work with struggling readers in small groups and provide professional development for teachers. ACPS utilizes the PALS assessment as a literacy screener for every child K - 5. Once students are identified as needing extra support in reading, we then use other assessments to hone in on the exact need(s). From there we develop a very specific scope of skills with which to work in order to meet the students' needs.
