(this or Class Dojo are the best ways to reach me during the school day or in the evenings)

I am excited to be teaching your children again this year and if your child is new to the school, welcome! I know we are going to have a productive and positive year with lots of great growth and results!!

If you ever feel the need to ask questions, clarify anything, or simply touch base, please don't hesitate to do so. I would like to develop a close relationship with your children and with you! Email is the absolute best way to get hold of me, but I also check agendas each day for notes from parents. I often write notes or staple notes into agendas as well. Please check your child's agenda nightly for homework assignments and/or notes and notifications.

Daily Necessities:

Book Bag, Agenda (signed by parent or guardian nightly), Basic supplies, Homework, and Reading Log (all students are required to read 20 minutes each night, at least).

Homework:

Students will write their homework down in their agendas first thing each morning or during each class. They are responsible for writing down complete explanations of assignments. I will check agendas each afternoon before dismissal to ensure that homework assignments have been written down completely. At that time, I will either place a sticker or initial the agenda. If you do not see either of those, you will know that your child has not brought me his/her agenda to be checked for accuracy.

I ask that once your child has completed all homework and has had it checked, you sign or initial the agenda as well. I will check for your signature/initials each morning when I collect homework. Incomplete or missing homework will be done during recess, and your child will not receive a sticker for the day. Homework is extremely important, as it reinforces what has been learned in the classroom, teaches responsibility, and helps develop study skills. Parents play a key role in making homework a positive experience for students. They will need a set time and place to complete their homework. Routine is crucial for children.

Switching Classes:

This year your child will be receiving instruction in Reading and Writing from Mrs. Hagerty (ME!) Math is being taught by Mrs. Voit. The children will be with Ms. Cappurcinni for Science and History. We will be switching classes on a daily basis. All of us have the same expectations of all of our students in order to provide consistency.

Wednesday Folders:

Students will bring a folder home each Wednesday with their work from the previous week enclosed. This includes any class work that has been completed and homework. Please remove all of the work unless otherwise indicated, sign the sheet on the back, and return the folder on Thursday.

Behavior Plan:

Our behavior plan is built upon consistency. Your child starts out with a clean slate each day. Consequences for unwise decisions will depend on the number and severity of the undesired behaviors. I expect for each student to:

Be Responsible

Be Respectful

Follow Directions

These are just the basics. With your help, we can truly help these children to become successful citizens in the 21st century!

Thank you for sharing your child with me this year. I will do my absolute best to bring him/her to the level that he/she needs to be at the end of the year. I know that I can count on you to help me with this joint venture. I look forward to working with you and your child!
