Welcome to Ms. Tomlin's Fifth Grade Class!

About Me:

Hello! I am very excited to be teaching 5th grade at Central Elementary this year and cannot wait to watch our students GROW. The best way to reach me is through my email listed above. This is my first year teaching and my biggest goal this year is that all students will grow. Students will be continuously assessed as a way to track and monitor all progress. You will always be aware of how your child is doing through communication with me and your child's other teachers, as well as through checking PowerSchool.

In 2016, I received my Bachelor of Science in Elementary and Middle Education K-8, with a Natural Science Concentration, from Longwood University. That summer, I continued my education at Longwood University and received my Master of Science in Special Education the following year in 2017. What I enjoyed most about Longwood University was the community of the school, the challenging academics, and the dedicated professors.

Homework:

Students will write their homework down in their agendas at the beginning of each class. They are responsible for writing down complete explanations of assignments. I will check agendas each afternoon before dismissal to ensure that homework assignments have been written down completely. At that time, I will either place a sticker or initial the agenda. If you do not see either of those, you will know that your child has not brought me his/her agenda to be checked for accuracy.

Switching Classes:

This year your child will be receiving instruction in Science, Writing, and History from me, Ms. Tomlin. Math is being taught by Mrs. Peck. For Reading and Intervention, the children will be with me Mrs. Hagerty. We will be switching classes on a daily basis. All of us have the same expectations of all of our students in order to provide consistency.

Monday Folders:

Students will bring a folder home each Monday with their work from the previous week enclosed. This includes any class work that has been completed and homework. Please remove all of the work unless otherwise indicated and return the folder on Tuesday.

Behavior Plan:

Our behavior plan is built upon consistency. Your child starts out with a clean slate each day. We use a clipboard for each homeroom class that travels with the class. Consequences for unwise decisions will depend on the number and severity of the undesired behaviors. There will be consequences for daily occurrences as well as consequences on Friday for cumulative occurrences. The basic expectations for all students are:

Be Responsible

Be Respectful

Follow Directions

I look forward to working with you this year to ensure your child demonstrates success and growth.
