Welcome to Ms. Tomlin's Second Grade Class!

Ms. Loiacono: 2nd / 3rd Grade - The Early Childhood Center at St ...

About Me:
In 2016, I received my Bachelor of Science in Elementary and Middle Education K-8, with a Natural Science Concentration, from Longwood University. That summer, I continued my education at Longwood University and received my Master of Science in Special Education the following year in 2017. What I enjoyed most about Longwood University was the community of the school, the challenging academics, and the dedicated professors.

This is my fourth year teaching at Central, but my first year to second grade! I am very excited to see what teaching second grade will be like!

Communication:
The best way to reach me is through my email listed above. You will hear from my at least every two weeks to update you on your child's assignments and are able to view their progress through our parent portal regularly (make sure to sign up). I will also be using "Bloomz" to communicate with parents and set up virtual conferences.

Routines:
To begin the learning experience each day, we will have a daily "meet up" (usually heard as morning meetings). "Meet Ups" will be one of the ways we will be using to establish a safe community within our classroom, where our students will know they are valued and their voice is important.

Fridays are online learning days, where students will use Canvas to complete activities and assignments.

There will be heavy focus on social-emotional learning, especially during the transition back into the classroom (face-to-face and virtually). Central has already had systems that incorprate social-emotional learning, like mind-up, with which we learned the parts of the brain and how we can use our knowledge of the brain to help appropriately manage our emotions. With recent events, we will use social-emotional learning to become more resilient during these uncertain and difficult times. These skills are necessary for success within and beyond the classrom.
